PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY (PCIT)

Parenting can be one of the most challenging jobs on the planet. Just when we think we've got it down, our children change, go through a new phase, and techniques that used to work like a charm no longer seem effective in handling our children's misbehavior. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a 12 week, evidenced-based therapy treatment, appropriate for children ages 2–7 (although it can be effective for some 8–10 year olds). This treatment is focused on helping improve your relationship with your child and helping your child learn to comply with your requests and behave appropriately. You will be empowered with the skills therapists use to help you interact with and respond to your child differently. The therapist acts as your coach, using technology (“a bug in your ear” audio transmitter) to intervene, guide and support you through live sessions and scenarios with your child. You will learn new ways to handle defiance, noncompliance, “sassy” behavior, disruptive/attention seeking behavior, inflexibility, tantrums and other power struggles. This treatment is truly empowering for parents, can greatly improve your relationship with your child, restore order in your home and can help you rediscover the joy in parenting.
